Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

Te Kura Mātāpuna Tangata | School of Language, Social & Political Sciences (LSAP) is seeking to appoint a social scientist with expertise in quantitative methodologies. The role is an interdisciplinary one and will be based across the department of Media and Communication and the department of Political Science and International Relations. The successful candidate will carry out teaching and research at the intersection of these disciplines. You will develop courses and contribute to teaching in areas such as statistical modelling, querying and analysing large datasets, social network analysis, and data visualisation.

Other responsibilities will include pastoral care of students, postgraduate thesis supervision, research, administrative tasks, outreach, and supervision of tutors. To be successful in the role, you will have experience at the interface of communication, political science, international relations and related fields, and a relevant PhD. You will have experience in using computational and quantitative methodologies. You will be proficient in teaching and developing a reflective pedagogical practice, with experience at tertiary level. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of recent developments in both research/scholarship and professional practice in quantitative methodologies. You will have a growing research portfolio through your doctoral studies, or be developing a research practice. Experience of working in multidisciplinary research teams would be an advantage.

The salary for this position on the academic salary scale is Lecturer (2.01 - $82,882 to 2.06 $100,954).
