Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The Faculty of Law of Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for teaching fellows for the 2023 academic year for LAWS297.

We are looking for individuals with a high level of achievement in legal studies and strong interpersonal and communication skills to contribute to the undergraduate programme of the LLB offered by the Faculty of Law by delivering seminars, organising and evaluating oral submissions and moots and marking assessments relating to LAWS297 – Legal Research, Writing & Mooting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation for teaching in LAWS 297.
  • Attendance at any LAWS 297 planning and moderation meetings, library training sessions and CAD Introduction to Tutoring / Marking and Feedback Training as required.
  • Preparation and delivery of seminars, development of schedule for oral submissions and judging moots.
  • Student consultation as necessary.
  • Marking the 2 legal writing exercises, the advocacy report and written and oral moot submissions in accordance with Faculty guidelines and within the timeframes specified in the Course Outline.
  • Participation in the demonstration moot, as required.
  • Providing feedback to students as to their progress in the course (and marking any resubmitted exercises).

Key Requirements:

  • High level of academic achievement at LLB / LLB(Hons) level or higher
  • Demonstrated evidence of good oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with students and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Availability to run seminars during normal teaching periods.
