Position Overview

Massey University’s Large Animal Teaching Unit (LATU), is an extensively used facility for practical large animal teaching to both Veterinary and Veterinary Technology students. Occupying approximately 2,000 m2 of covered space and encompassing 83ha of farmland devoted to the teaching animal herds. LATU includes modern roofed yards for handling large animals, stalls and an arena for examining horses and cattle, plus dedicated sheep handling facilities. We maintain a dry dairy herd, a tame mixed age cow herd, 30 horses, 20 camelids and several hundred sheep. 

We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented person to join our small, busy team, focused on providing an exceptional teaching environment for our academic staff and students..

Reporting to the LATU Manager you will assist in all aspects of the smooth running of the facility and it is essential you have the following;

-  Experience in animal handling and pasture management, particularly with horses and cattle
-  Excellent communicator and be a team player
-  Full clean driver licence
-  Sound computer skills (you will have primary responsibility for the refinement and on-going maintenance of our electronic stock record system)

You will have an enthusiastic approach, flexible with your work hours, able to work for a few hours every third weekend on a rotational basis and have plenty of initiative. Enquiries are to be directed to the LATU Manager, Mr Mike Reilly (M.J.Reilly@massey.ac.nz ).
