The Otago School of Pharmacy is the oldest in the country and prides itself on achieving excellence in pharmaceutical science and pharmaceutical care. We aim for excellence in research and research informed teaching in pharmaceutical science, clinical pharmacy and social pharmacy.

The role

This role has a focus on contributing to the teaching and research goals of the School of Pharmacy.  You will help to support the Pharmaceutical Science laboratory classes and work to ensure the undergraduate laboratories run smoothly and a positive learning experience is maintained for our students.

You will help to support various teaching sessions and work to maintain and prepare associated teaching areas while demonstrating to students the skills required to dispense medicines competently.

Key tasks include:
•    Setting up and supporting the laboratory teaching sessions.
•    Ensuring the laboratories remain safe environments for staff and students and all chemical residues and biohazard waste is appropriately disposed of.
•    Maintaining security of laboratory equipment and facilities.  
•    Identifying, actioning, and monitoring maintenance requirements of the associated facilities and equipment.
•    Assisting with invigilation of assessments, entry, and collation of marks.
•    Collaborating with academic staff to research, develop and review laboratory experiments, techniques, and protocols.
•    Laboratory demonstrating and teaching as required.

Your skills and experience

•    BSc or equivalent in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science, or a relevant related discipline.
•    Experience working in a teaching and/or research lab environment.
•    Confident demonstrating skills and ability to present to both small and large groups.
•    Experience setting up undergraduate labs.
•    An understanding of basic laboratory and pharmaceutical testing equipment.

This is a full-time, fixed term (8 month) position from 1 November 2021.
