Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
As the Kaitiaki Huawaere Ako | Open Education Librarian, you will lead and support the Library's open education initiatives in collaboration with various stakeholders, ensure that open education initiatives, including the promotion of OERs (open educational resources), fit UC's strategy, are collaborative, and are well planned, led, and communicated, and, alongside the Research Systems & Data Librarian and others, lead and develop open access and open publication initiatives.
You will also work as a Subject Librarian and participate in subject area and department-related tasks as required.
Mōu | Who You Are
This is a diverse and challenging role requiring technical Library skills and highly developed interpersonal skills. To be successful in this position, you will have the following:
- 5+ years' work experience in Library, knowledge management or research management, preferably in an academic environment. Experience leading projects and initiatives in academic publishing, OERs, or open access is an advantage.
- Bachelor's Degree (NZQA Level 7), plus an approved tertiary postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Studies or equivalent A passion for the promotion of open educational resources in the University environment.
- Awareness of current issues and trends regarding scholarly communication, OERs, and open access publications.
- An understanding of academic practices and processes in an academic environment.
- An understanding of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and implications for libraries
- Active commitment to upholding the values, tikanga (protocols and processes), kawa (rules) of cultural practice and traditions as guided by mana whenua, Ngāi Tūāhuriri, and valuing te reo Māori. Proficiency in te reo Māori will be an advantage.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups in an academic environment.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and conceptually, and to communicate ideas clearly and persuasively to others.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

You will work with a dynamic library team who are passionate about making a difference for student and staff learning, teaching and research. The team delivers on-campus and online library services to support the strategic direction of Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha.
