Position Overview

The School of Built Environment is seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our research team as a Research Officer for a fixed-term contract ending December 2025.  

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in a large-scale research programme of national significance for Aotearoa New Zealand and work with a group of enthusiastic academic researchers and experienced academic research leaders as well as with experienced construction sector experts. 

In this role, you will contribute to the dynamic research activities of our school, with a specific focus on the $8.6 million, five-year research programme funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) of New Zealand, which aims to create capacities and capabilities for New Zealand construction sector to deliver its national pipeline projects. 
 
Mahi Ngātahi | Who you will work with
 
The CanConstructNZ research team consists of researchers from the Massey University, the University of Auckland, the University of Canterbury, BRANZ and experts from New Zealand cosntruction sector. This core team of researchers is supported by a highly experienced advisory board consists of the leaders of New Zealand construction sector as well as international academics. 
 
Ngā taipitopito tūranga mahi | Job details 

  • Actively participate in the MBIE funded research programme and contribute to ongoing research activities within the School of Built Environment (SBE).
  • Engage in at least one of the research groups within the School, collaborating with colleagues to advance research objectives.
  • Conduct data collection, analysis, and dissemination of research findings through various scholarly outlets, including academic journals, books, and other appropriate media.
  • Assist in the preparation of research funding proposals aligned with the strategic vision of SBE and its areas of expertise.

  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to contribute effectively to research projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to disseminate research findings to various audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and engage in interdisciplinary research activities.
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving abilities, with a commitment to advancing knowledge within the field of Built Environment research.

Qualifications

  • A PhD or Master degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, building science, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • A strong record of research and publications relevant to the Built Environment, with a focus on construction processes, construction IT, and other pertinent aspects of construction management research.
