Junior Fire Technician

40 hours per week
Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader based bioeconomy.
An exciting opportunity is now available for a Junior Fire Technician to join our Forest Fire research programme at our Christchurch campus. In your role you will support ground-breaking research and work with leading New Zealand and international scientists to make a difference for New Zealand.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide research and technical assistance for various Fire research projects including lab-based studies as well as field work and experimental burns.
- Assist with the design, preparation, and execution of field experiments.
- Processing of vegetation samples using established oven drying and weighing methods.
- Collection and management of data from field sampling.
An ideal candidate will bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualification BSc or MSc, in Forestry, Biology, or Plant Science, or at least 2 years practical experience in forestry, sciences, or fire related field.
- Physically fit with a good aptitude for fieldwork, preferably with some experience with rural fire, forestry, surveying, or scientific fieldwork.
- At a personal level you must be innovative, self-motivated and willing to work both independently and as part of a team. You'll be an effective communicator with proven ability to work both independently and within a team.
