Position Overview

Are you a seasoned IT Security professional with 7+ years’ experience working in SecOps wanting to take your career to the next level in a challenging and vibrant university environment?

Or maybe you are already an IT Security Manager with at least 2 to 3 years’ leadership experience along with strong technical, business and communications skills who wants to take on a security management role in a world-leading University?

If you can answer yes to either of these questions, then read on!

We are looking for an individual of exceptional talent to take on the challenge of leading our security practice at Massey University; ensuring that the rest of us can sleep easily at night, knowing that you and your team have us safe and secure.

This is not a job for the faint-hearted! Our current security team has lost some significant key team members recently, so building a new team and growing capability will be one of your strengths. As the leader of the IT Security team, you will be supported by the existing team, our enterprise architecture team, and our IT leadership team.

You will be working in a very busy, fast-paced SecOps environment as well as supporting the security requirements of a range of exciting projects that are key to growing Massey University’s position as a world-renowned provider of unique practical teaching programmes, ground-breaking research, and online courses.

You will be comfortable working closely with and providing advice to business stakeholders, project managers, our IT Service leadership team, and managers across all domains of the ICT function and leaning into security architecture. You will help shape, develop, and maintain our standards, procedures, processes, and best practices to provide pragmatic and ‘fit for purpose’ security guidance to projects and stakeholders.

Using your strong technical expertise you will advise on the security requirements for new technologies in research, teaching and learning in addition to our standard suite of corporate applications.

You will get to work alongside a very committed team of IT Professionals. You will get to make a real difference, grow internal capability, work with a great team and have a lot of fun at the same time!

Our team is based on the vibrant Manawatu campus in Palmerston North where short commutes and a beautiful environment make for a great work-like balance. However, we will also consider applications from candidates who want to base themselves at our Wellington or Auckland campuses.

If this sounds like you, then we would like to hear from you!

Applications close: Sunday 5th june 2022, 11.30 pm

Please note: All completed applications must be submitted online via the Massey Careers portal rather than emailed to Alistair James
