Position Overview

We are offering a 13-month fixed-term contract which commences as soon as possible for an Intelligence Analyst to join the Environmental Health Intelligence NZ (EHINZ) team.

EHINZ monitors New Zealand’s environmental health under contact with the Ministry of Health. EHINZ is based in the Research Centre for Hauora and Health (RCHH) within the College of Health, Massey University, and has five surveillance systems for monitoring environmental health in New Zealand. Find out more about us here https://www.ehinz.ac.nz/

Our team

We are a tight but semi-independent team who are focused on meeting our contracted deliverables through designing team and individual work programmes. We provide a great learning environment, flexible working locations and great support. You are expected to take personal accountability for your work and be self-managed.

What you will be doing: Analysing data and producing intelligence on environmental health for publication and dissemination to our stakeholders and clients, including:

Providing Technical Assistance

- Assisting the EHINZ team in monitoring the impact of the environment on the health of New Zealanders
- Conducting policy-relevant analysis of environmental health issues
- Assisting with the development of new environmental health indicators
- Assisting with the updating of the EHINZ website
- Assisting with EHINZ’s communications strategy
- Assisting with other EHINZ-related projects as required.

Reporting

- Producing monitoring factsheets on environmental health topics for dissemination and publication
- Producing data and intelligence on environmental health issues for ad hoc requests from stakeholders and clients
- Producing ad-hoc reports on special environmental health topics.

Engaging with stakeholders

- Giving presentations on the work of EHINZ
- Representing EHINZ at technical advisory meetings as required
- Maintaining relationships with stakeholders and clients.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A postgraduate degree in relevant subjects (essential)
  • Knowledge and experience in health, health science, science, epidemiology, geography, or statistics (essential)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (essential)
  • Ability to interpret and discuss the results of analyses and research (essential)
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, SAS, or a similar software package (desirable)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and lead teams (desirable)
  • Experience in project management (desirable).
