Position Overview

Massey University|Te Kunenga Ki Pūrehuroa is a dynamic and outward-looking organisation with campuses in Auckland, Manawatū and Wellington, making a lasting difference in the lives of the many thousands of students that study at Massey, here in NZ and internationally.

With opportunities on either our Wellington or Palmerston North campus, a key focus of these roles will be on supporting managers to - optimise their team culture; build the capabilities of staff; achieve high levels of staff engagement; manage employee conduct and performance; and making sure the full range of people-related services are delivered with strong customer focus.

Supported by accomplished HR peers, you will identify strategic and operational people issues in your client groups and broker solutions from a Te Ao Māori principles perspective, drawing on a range of frameworks and specialist colleagues in the wider HR team.  You will be supported to contribute as part of your client group’s executive team and expected to manage a portfolio of proactive people initiatives as well as advising managers on their day-to-day people issues.

Reporting to the Director Employment Relations & Advisory / Legal Counsel, you will join a dedicated and experienced team of HR Advisors and specialist colleagues across the full-range of HR disciplines.  We particularly invite interest from practitioners with experience in supporting large organisations through cultural and organisational change.  You will have a strong employment relations background and will have the opportunity to contribute to a range of developments across the HR group.  Travel will be required on occasions to service your client group and to engage with the wider People and Culture team.

Achieving success in this role will require you to be –

  • Proactive in establishing trusted relationships – both with your client group and the wider HR team
  • Visible and actively engaged with your client groups
  • Focused on solutions and results and with a project orientation
  • Thrive on juggling competing priorities and operating with a high level of autonomy and self-direction
  • Engaged with the Te Tiriti o Waitangi-led direction of the University and embrace the principles of Te Ao Māori
  • Initiative and ability to operate with a level of independence while keeping connected with colleagues

Massey offers a flexible, enabling and inclusive environment, with superior superannuation employer contribution, five additional University holidays, study fee concessions, and a commitment to being te Tiriti o Waitangi-led. While this is a full-time role, consideration will be given to highly experienced HR practitioners who may prefer a substantial part-time role.
