The opportunity / Te Whiwhinga mahi

NMIT is currently looking to appoint an experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to provide specialist services related to Health, Safety and Wellness activities across multi-site and multi-disciplinary operations.  This role will reports to the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager and will be instrumental in shaping the health and safety culture of the organisation. 

The key responsibilities for the role are (see task list attached to the Job Description):

  • Provide subject matter expertise and support to all levels of management to ensure legal compliance with New Zealand Health and Safety regulations and to maximise opportunities within their areas.
  • Establish, maintain and review the health and safety framework to ensure all hazards and risks are regularly reviewed, investigated, corrective actions taken and communicated effectively. 
  • Lead the H&S Committee, supporting and empowering representatives to be effective in their roles. Report on HS&W matters for the Institute Audit and Risk Committee.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and experience outlined in the job description.
  • Proven experience in the analysis, research and/or writing of technical/specialist reports as it relates to the role.
  • Be efficient, well organised, able to work under pressure in a changing environment.
  • The ability to work independently, display initiative and exercise judgement to problem solve in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of applicable laws, regulations, and government requirements and their impact on business
  • Full clean drivers' licence as you will need to visit campuses in Nelson/Tasman and Marlborough.
