The role/Te mahi
 
As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will be accountable for the delivery and implementation of the University of Otago Occupational Health and Safety Management systems on the Wellington Campus.

You will also be responsible for the agreed Occupational Health and Safety monitoring and collaboration with contractors for the Wellington Campus maintenance and construction projects.

Key tasks of this role include:
•    Providing information, support and training for managers and staff to implement their required Health and Safety responsibilities.
•    Monitoring the effectiveness of compliance on site and identify areas for improvement.
•    Providing onsite advice and support for staff and students at the Wellington Campus location.
•    Investigating high risk incidents and incident analysis to identify trends.
•    Acting as a member of the Critical Incident Team for the Wellington Campus.
•    Providing inductions for approved contractors on site.
•    Formulating investigation reports, identify corrective actions and ensure completion of corrective actions.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

Successful candidates will have:
•    A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent in Health and Safety.
•    Experience working as a Health and Safety Advisor/Coordinator or similar, in a multidimensional, multiteam environment.
•    A focus on results with the ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
•    Effective communication skills with the ability to write clear, user friendly documentation for business purposes.
•    The ability to work both with clients and develop and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues.

Other preferred requirements:
•    Previous experience working in a similar environment and role with at least 5 years related Health and Safety experience.
•    High competence in using technical business software, ability to easily grasp new processes and technologies.

This is a permanent, part time (0.5 FTE) position.

The salary level for this position is provisionally evaluated as Level 7 and is subject to change.
