The role/Te mahi

As a Groundsperson, you will join a busy and collaborative team, maintaining our historic and world class campus grounds, and undertaking alteration work as directed. 

You will be working with a wide range of people across the University campus and helping us to achieve our Property and Campus Development vision to create and maintain a built environment that encourages and inspires aspirations of excellence for everyone who experiences the University of Otago.

Key tasks of the role also include:
•    Lawn care and weed spraying.
•    Vandalism repair.
•    General garden maintenance.
•    Landscaping.
•    Litter removal.

Skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

We are looking for candidates with a strong work ethic, who are self- motivated and conscientious.

Successful candidates will also:
•    Be physically fit and capable of heavy lifting.
•    Show suitable practical experience in horticulture, gardening and/or landscaping.
•    Have a general knowledge of materials, equipment and machinery associated with grounds maintenance and alteration work.
•    Have ability to carry out basic equipment maintenance.
•    Demonstrate strong communication skills.
•    Hold relevant horticultural qualifications.

A Growsafe/approved handler, Heavy Traffic licence and/or Tractor safety knowledge would be advantageous.
