FIELD INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN - CHRISTCHURCH

Scion specialises in research, science, and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products, and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts, and energy and towards establishing a broader-based bioeconomy.

We are looking for someone to join our team of pioneers in the application field instrumentation technologies. Reporting to the Team Leader Autonomous systems, within our Digital and Geospatial Research group, you will:

  • Supervise Scion's field instrumentation use, from usage to maintenance, storage, and updating, to ensure that equipment is handled, maintained, and relevant to enable longevity.
  • Apply electronics engineering and instrumentation expertise in the procurement, management, setup, and deployment of various field data collection instrumentation supporting high-quality research work across Scion.
  • Support the Impact Area's research projects and various forest research areas, like forest health, ecosystems, fire, inventory, remote sensing, and GIS to deliver high-quality research outcomes.

What are we looking for:-

  • Bachelor's degree/Diploma in the field of Electrical or Electronics Engineering or Agricultural Meteorology

and/or

  • At least two years of proven hands-on technical skills or position in electronics/sensor systems and maintenance of relevance to agricultural or forestry systems.
  • Strong proven electrical skills and knowledge, such as soldering and understanding electrical circuits, in working with and maintaining analog systems
  • Experience with scientific field / meteorological instrumentation (e.g., Campbell Scientific Meteorology Equipment, sonic and gill anemometers, etc.) an advantage
  • Strong proven electronics skills and technical expertise working with digital sensors, microcontrollers, and embedded systems programming used in scientific instrumentations for environment monitoring (e.g., weather, soil, air, water quality, etc.)
