Position Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive Facilities Maintenance Fitter to join our Estates Management - Facilities team.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience working in the building maintenance industry. You will be expected to perform standard building maintenance tasks such as…

  • Inspections, repairs, maintenance and overhauls of the universities mechanical services, plant and equipment.
  • Basic plumbing and drainage repairs.
  • Managing jobs and asset information in our Work Order system.
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Problem solving to root cause with corrective and preventative resolutions using recognised engineering techniques.
  • Conduct and assist with use, data input and modifications to the building maintenance system and be able to utilise available software to assist with fault-finding.


Inspection, repair, maintain and overhaul:

  • Building, HVAC, plant and equipment within the organisation’s facilities. Such equipment can include PLC & Microprocessor based building control systems, motors/pumps, boiler systems, door access and barrier arm equipment, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, heating or cooling control, plumbing and drainage systems and such other equipment that Facilities Services is responsible for.

At Massey you’ll be able to keep up to date with the ever-changing energy-saving practices and the obligations set by New Zealand legislation, codes, and best practice.

You’ll need:

  • NZQA and /or advanced Trade Cert in Mechanical Engineering or similar related field with NZQA
  • A minimum 5 years work experience in Facilities Maintenance.
  • Extensive experience working in a team conducting Planned, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance activities.
  • Sound experience and knowledge of control systems and programs relating to Building Management and Access Control Systems and Asset Management Software systems.
  • Maintenance experience at an education, hospital or University, or similar organisation is highly desirable.


We’re looking for someone who can communicate clearly and concisely with staff and managers. You’ll bring a positive attitude to workplace safety and a good knowledge of safe working practice.

We are flexible in start and finish times ie:  7am to 3pm or 9am to 5pm and would consider a job share option for the right candidates. 

This role will require you to be available out of normal working hours to suit the operational needs of the University, this is catered for by the use of an on-call roster.
