ADJUNCT MARKERS REQUIRED FOR UNDERGRADUATE PSYCHOLOGY COURSES

Open Polytechnic's Psychology department wishes to extend its Adjunct marking team to support the teaching of its undergraduate psychology courses.  This primarily includes marking assessments for traditional Stage 1, 2 and 3 courses, plus Counselling Theory, Human Development, Communication and Relationship Management, Psychology of Stress, Behaviour Analysis, Understanding Mental Health, Child and Adolescent Issues, Child and Adolescent Psychopathology, and a third year Research Methods course (which includes discourse analysis and advanced statistics).

Open Polytechnic is an online distance institution where learners study from different regions throughout New Zealand and overseas.  Learners submit their assessments online and we return their work online using track changes in Word with a marking schedule (which itemises mark allocations and adds-up marks).  Assessments vary from lab reports and essays to case study type assessments.  Marking fees average around $40.00- $55.00 per assessment.  Assessments may take between 1 to 1.5 hours to mark.

Courses are offered within a trimesterised system involving 16 weeks: Trimester 1 starting in February, Trimester 2 starting in July, and Trimester 3 starting in October each year, with different courses offered each trimester.  Assessments are often scheduled from Week 4 up until Week 16 of a trimester.

To mark for Open Polytechnic, you would need:

  • To have broadband internet access (marking is done using an online system);
  • To be available for the duration of 2022 and 2023;
  • To be qualified in Psychology with an undergraduate degree and honours, or you could be in your first year of your Masters;
  • To be a clear communicator with a tactful and supportive writing style, a critical thinker, and have a working knowledge of APA formatting and referencing; and
  • To be able to return marked assessments within 10 business days of receiving them.

NOTE:  Experience in marking is desirable, but not essential.

We would need from you, no later than Wednesday, 24 November 2021 (earlier contact is preferable):

  • Your current CV, including undergraduate psychology and honours/postgraduate psychology courses completed, and marks obtained; this gives us an idea of your subject areas of strength, although marks alone are not a sufficient criteria for marking.
  • Commitment to marking during 2022 and 2023.
  • An estimation of how many assessments you could mark per trimester. We are open to accommodating variations per Adjunct, and allocations depend on the number of learners who enrol.

Once we have reviewed the information provided, and assessed how this matches our requirements, we would invite you to participate in a vetting process which involves marking a mock assessment.  You will be provided with guidance to complete this task.

Open Polytechnic provides Adjuncts with:

  • An email account;
  • Initial guidance and feedback about their marking; and
  • Access to a IT related service desk.

If you are interested in becoming an Adjunct for Open Polytechnic, please email your availability (over the next two years), estimated number of assessments per trimester, and your CV and academic transcript to:
