The role/Te mahi

As a Mechanical Engineer within the Property Services Division, you will be responsible for the planning and delivery of high-quality mechanical/engineering/HVAC work on a wide variety of buildings and spaces across the University campus.

You will ensure that all works meet the University’s quality standards and that these works continue to meet all mechanical/engineering/HVAC regulatory requirements

Key tasks of the role include:
•    Providing professional advice to clients on all Mechanical/Engineering/HVAC trade matters.
•    Contributing to resolution of ongoing code of compliance issues and building warrant of fitness items for Property Services.
•    Carrying out physical supervision of Mechanical/Engineering/HVAC trainees.
•    Co-ordinating with Facility Managers on the installation and maintenance of services within buildings.
•    Managing the documentation process of As Built’s and Operation Manuals for mechanical/engineering/HVAC undertakings on the Otago Campus.
•    Co-ordinating all Mechanical/Engineering/HVAC work with relevant staff and contractors for the University of Otago.

In addition, you will be required to provide technical expertise in the design of specific Mechanical/Engineering/HVAC services campus wide.

Successful candidates will have:
•    An Engineering/HVAC qualification.
•    Sound knowledge and practical experience of complex mechanical and HVAC systems.
•    General knowledge of materials, equipment, and sub-trades relative to the building industry.
•    Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
•    A result focussed and client centred service ethic.
•    The ability to co-ordinate with other trades and contractors.

Steam and Boiler Control experience is an advantage.

This is a full time (40 hours week), permanent position.

Salary listed is the base rate. On-call, overtime rates and merit band progression available.
