We are seeking a Developer to be part of the Application Development team. You will be part of a team that is focused on development and deployment of solutions for the Student Management System, application lifecycle management services, 2nd level incident support and resolution and access management.

To be successful in this role you will possess excellent communication skills, be accurate and have attention to detail, and understand complex problems and develop solutions for them. You will have experience in developing high quality code following standard development patterns to agreed standards.

Job description
Purpose statement

The Developer is responsible for producing timely and high-quality developments for applications. This process includes the development and maintenance of custom applications as well as the customisation of products from software vendors.

Manager Application Development

Key accountabilities
  • Maintain a project management approach to software development that establishes clear priorities, progress and estimates for application delivery

  • Ensure that scheduled work is completed on time, to specification and to high technical standard (this includes ensuring all changes are Unit and possibly System tested prior to handover)

  • Adhere to overall systems and programming standards (either ITS or vendor specified) for delivery

  • Contribute to the technical design / specifications

  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Business Analysts on software solutions in relation to user requirements

  • Accountable for creating and maintaining documentation to ITS standards

  • Maintain existing systems, includes general maintenance tasks as required and resolution of assigned defects/incidents.

  • Perform other relevant duties as required.

Person specification

A tertiary qualification in Information Science, Computer Science or equivalent.


Proven ability to write complex applications

Familiar with variety of programming languages

An understanding of an entire application lifecycle

Good understanding of databases and application services (queues, caching, etc.)

Strong technical expertise and judgment to develop technical solutions

Proven ability to provide services to support, guide and assure design/testing of technical solutions in line with agreed strategies and directions.

Ability to investigate new technology and develop an authoritative understanding of ‘leading edge’ technology.

Proven ability to provide technical input to the design of major computer systems.

Proven ability to scope technical tasks and ensure these are developed and delivered per ITS processes and policies.
