Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for a Deputy Head of Hall to join the Student and Campus Living Directorate at the University.

As a Deputy Head of Hall in the Victoria University of Wellington halls of residence you will get all of the above and more! No two days are the same as we guide our student residents through the excitement and challenges of leaving home and creating their futures. You will work with a passionate bunch of committed people who feel truly rewarded by the student living environment and the part they play in helping young people transition into adulthood.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

The successful candidate will possess demonstrable skills and have experience in people management, pastoral care, problem solving, budgeting and administration, event planning and conflict resolution. Experience applying restorative justice principles would be beneficial.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience and success working in a similar role in the student context in a tertiary, education environment
  • Expertise developing, implementing, and monitoring student engagement strategies and plans that support academic success and a super-student experience
  • Experience leading a team of young people focused on supporting domestic and international students to set and achieve their goals in a safe and caring environment
  • Knowledge of relevant regulation and legislation, including the Privacy Act 1993 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015
  • Knowledge of the importance of health and wellbeing in a Halls of Residence
  • Strong understanding of risk management in a welfare context
  • Experience in formal management of behavioural/conflict issues relating to youth
  • Relevant tertiary qualificationand pastoral care management
  • Minimum first-aid qualification
