Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently seeking to appoint an outstanding strategic and academic leader as Dean, Faculty of Science.

The Dean of Science sits within the Faculties of Science, Health, Engineering, and Architecture & Design Innovation (SHEADI) and will guide the implementation of the strategy and future direction for the Faculty in alignment with the Pro Vice-Chancellor for SHEADI (“the Division”).

We are looking for an exceptional individual with

  • demonstrated motivation and capability to lead the Faculty.
  • a participatory leader who shares the values of the University.
  • demonstrated knowledge and experience of what constitutes excellence in research, learning and teaching, and engagement.
  • an astute strategic leader, with an innovative mindset, and experienced at inspiring and leading teams around a shared vision.

You will have held a leadership position in the academic or science sector and need to understand and appreciate the academic environment.

We require all applicants to be currently residing in New Zealand and have a legal right to work in New Zealand.

The Faculty of Science is one of New Zealand’s top research institutions, attracting around $115m in external research funding over the past three years. We’re home to a thriving international community of staff and students—with over 400 staff and over 3,500 students, around 700 of whom are postgraduates. Wellington has the highest concentration of scientists and science organisations in the country, and the Faculty has well-established links with government, industry and NGOs.

The Faculty is made up of four schools which offer excellent teaching and world-leading research programmes across biology, chemistry, physics, geography, environmental and earth science, and psychology. Our staff are internationally recognised in their fields of research, with Earth and Marine Sciences, Geography, Geology, and Psychology ranked in the world’s top 100 in the 2020 QS World University Rankings by Subject.
