Following the recent establishment of the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of Government, Law and Business, Wellington's globally recognised law school, located in the legal and political heart of New Zealand, is seeking to appoint an Amo Tātai Ture -Dean of the Faculty of Law. This newly created leadership role will provide strategic direction and academic oversight of the research, teaching, civic engagement and external engagement for the Faculty of Law. 

With a profile of substantial scholarly achievement in law and strong leadership experience, you will be a participatory leader who shares the values of the University. Reporting to the PVC and as a member of the Faculty Leadership Team, you will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and experience of what constitutes excellence in research, learning and teaching and engagement. You will be an astute strategic leader, have an innovative mindset, and be experienced in inspiring and leading teams through transformation in financially challenging circumstances and fostering a shared vision. 

This role will suit an accomplished law academic with the personal and professional credibility to engage proactively in fostering key relationships across the law community and with national and international stakeholders. You will display a strong commitment and capability in Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi to lead the increasing focus on Tikanga Māori in the law curriculum. Outstanding communication abilities including advocacy skills, group mediation and facilitation experience will be key to your success. While academic experience will be highly valued in these appointments, candidates with an appropriate background will be considered. 

The Faculty of Law is uniquely located on the Pipitea Campus, adjacent to Parliament, government ministries, departments and agencies, and Wellington’s central business district. In the 2018 Performance Based Research Fund (PBRF) round, the Law School was ranked first in New Zealand and first in the subject of Law. Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington was first-ranked among New Zealand universities in the 2012 and 2018 round of the PBRF for research.
