Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader-based bio-economy.

You will be part of a team who is pioneering the application of data science technologies, which means your expertise will be invaluable in developing scalable solutions when it comes to Machine Learning plus Data Modelling research and Data Management.

Reporting to the Data and Computational Sciences Team Lead within our Data and Geospatial-Intelligence group, you will:

  • Develop tools and frameworks as part of the data processing pipeline for machine learning and deep learning research.
  • Implement tools and platforms for querying and visualising data
  • Design and implement scalable data management solutions
  • Employ good software development practices to ensure the development of high-quality software.

 What you'll need to succeed:

  • Tertiary Diploma, Certificate or degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or demonstrated equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Strong coding experience - preferably Python and/or R.
  • Experience in implementing distributed systems and data processing pipelines.
  • Knowledge in the design and implementation of SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Good understanding of software development practices.
  • Practical experience with Git.
  • Previous experience or an interest in working with 3D tools such as Blender would be an advantage
  • Practical experience with containerization (e.g. Docker) and expertise with cloud platforms such as AWS
  • Comfortable working in both Linux and Windows environments.
  • An enthusiastic and innovative approach to science tasks; self-starter with the ability to work independently on tasks or as part of a team.
  • An ability to work well with end-users and stakeholders in the planning and delivery of assigned tasks.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience and knowledge in machine learning, and deep learning.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and analysis.

The salary range for this position at Band 7 is $81369 to $108492, depending on experience
