About our farm

Lincoln University is recruiting for a Dairy Farm Assistant to work on our research dairy farms based at the Lincoln University Research Dairy Farm.  The Lincoln University Research Dairy Farm consists of 55 ha of irrigated land and is currently milking 190 cows. Cows are milked in a 12 aside double up herringbone cowshed with the latest DeLaval milking systems.  The farm is run as a research unit on all aspects of dairy production with the objective of conducting research on dairy production systems.

Day to day tasks will vary and include a mixture of milking, checking cows for mastitis and other issues, shed hygiene, shifting irrigation sprinklers, effluent management, feeding out and pasture management. We have good systems and good staff ratios.

What makes you right for this role

As part of a small team, you will be a great team player.  In order to be successful in this position you will also have:

  • A minimum of 1-2 years' experience as a farm assistant on a dairy farm, with experience in milking and cow management
  • The ability to follow defined procedures, to record data accurately and to maintain clear and concise records as records
  • An honest approach
  • Empathy with dairy farming essential
  • Have a NZ full drivers licence, or are currently eligible to get one
  • Have good communication and listening skills
  • Have a good level of initiative
  • Have good problem solving skills
  • Are not afraid to ask questions
  • Have a good focus on health and safety in the workplace
