Dairy Farm Assistant - ADRDS (permanent role)

Mō te tūnga | The role

We are seeking applications for a Farm Assistant to work out our Selwyn based dairy farms.

This is not your ordinary farm role.  We value work/life balance in a teaching environment - you will be working an average of 40 hours per week, paid on a salary basis.

Work with state of the art machinery and gain valuable skills working with experienced farm managers who are passionate about staff development and wellbeing.

The Ashley Dean Research and Development Station is a 470 cow farm located in Springston based on roughly 200 hectares. The farm operates a 54 bale rotary shed and is irrigated by two pivots and a lateral irrigator. Calving happens once per year in spring.

Day to day tasks will vary but likely will be a mixture of:

  • Milking
  • Checking cows for mastitis and other issues
  • Shed hygiene
  • Shifting irrigation sprinklers
  • Effluent management
  • Feeding out
  • Weed management

This role pays up to $70,000 per annum total package. Included in this figure is an accommodation and clothing allowance.

Relocation allowance of up to $2,000 also available.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role

We're looking for people that are:

  • Keen to learn - attitude is the number one priority for us
  • Great at following procedures
  • Are physically fit - this is an active role
  • Have flexibility - love those early morning starts and can work outdoors in all weather
  • Have experience as a farm assistant on a dairy farm, with milking and cow management (optional)

Casual and part-time applications will also be considered.

Ngā hua ka riro ki a koe | What's in it for you?
