Dairy Farm Assistant - ADRDS

Updated: 2 months ago

  • The Ashley Dean Research and Development Station is a 500 cow farm located in Springston based on roughly 200 hectares. The farm operates a 54 bale rotary shed and is irrigated by 2 pivots and a lateral irrigator.

We have a great opportunity for someone to join our team as a dairy farm assistant.  For us, attitude is everything so if you are keen to either start or develop a career in dairy farming, and have a positive attitude and willingness to learn, we want to talk to you today.

The farm is owned by Lincoln University but you don’t need any qualifications to be considered for this role. If you’re the right person, we’ll invest in you with providing both on the job and industry-related training, coupled with a supportive team environment.

Day to day tasks will vary but will likely be a mixture of milking, checking cows for mastitis and other issues, shed hygiene, shifting irrigation sprinklers, effluent management, feeding out and weed management. Calving happens twice a year in spring and winter. This is not your average dairy farm, and will see you working alongside scientists and ongoing farm research.

This role may be right for you if you:

      • Have a NZ full drivers licence, or are currently eligible to get one
      • Have good communication and listening skills
      • Have a good level of initiative
      • Have good problem solving skills
      • Are not afraid to ask questions
      • Have a good focus on health and safety in the workplace

Some experience in the industry will be an advantage but is not essential if you can meet the other requirements.

This is a rostered positon with 6/2 roster pattern.

We invest a lot in our farm staff which means they are in high demand when it comes to their next career step. If this appeals to you, lets talk.
