Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products, and wood-derived materials and chemicals. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader-based bio-economy.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Chief Financial Officer to join our team for an 18 month fixed term period. This is a key leadership position that resides within our Finance Team and reports directly to the General Manager Finance and Corporate Services, some of the tasks you will carry out include:

  • Planning and directing Scion's commercial and financial strategies and their execution to achieve its business objectives.
  • Ensuring Scion meets its legal and compliance requirements associated with IFRS and GAAP and its constitutional and statutory requirements as a Crown Research Institute.
  • Planning and overseeing the auditing of annual accounts and ensure the auditors recommendations are implemented in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Making recommendations for enhancements to the Group's activities in particular financial performance.
  • Leading the effective communication and management of the organisations financial budgeting, monthly and quarterly review process.
  • Applying appropriate risk management approaches to mitigate known and expected financial risks including those associated with investments, joint ventures/partnerships and operating models.
  • Ensuring all the financial expectations and requirements of the Shareholder are met.

We seek a proven leader who has demonstrated ability to think strategically and also have:

  • University Degree/qualification in Accounting/Finance.
  • A Certified Accountant (CA or CPA).
  • Extensive relevant accounting experience in large complex environments.
  • Certified Accountant with thorough competence in financial and management accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability in development and consolidating financial models that facilitate effective decision making across departments.
  • Ability to understand an organisations strategic direction and to translate this into financial strategies and to implement enabling actions plans.
  • Experiences in providing clear, impartial professional advice and objective financial analysis and interpretation of complex situations.
  • Proven track record in budgeting and cashflow management.
  • Experience with financial modelling and business case development and feasibility analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with process and systems evaluation to find opportunities for improvement and associated implementation.
  • Experience with KPI and performance reporting for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a high performing team and manage one off projects.
  • Experience and ability to contribute to the Scion Leadership team.
  • Knowledge and experience with accounting compliance requirements and tax principles and obligations for NZ.
