Chief Digital Officer - Toitū Envirocare

Updated: about 1 year ago
Job Type: Permanent
Deadline: 02 Mar 2023

This is a hybrid role, preferably based in Auckland, however we have officers in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch so can be flexible with location.

We are Toitū Envirocare (Enviro-Mark Solutions Limited), and chances are you've already interacted with our brands— Toitū carbonzero, Toitū carbonreduce, or Enviro-Mark. You may have enjoyed carbonzero certified Yealands Wine or Steinlager beer, eaten Enviro-Mark Certified Abe's Bagels or used carbonzero certified ecotricity electricity, cleaned using Enviro-Mark Certified Eco Store products or at least know friends or family who have. You may have wondered at times how organisations like Kathmandu, The Warehouse Group, Canterbury University and Westpac manage their carbon emissions. The short answer is, it's our people. We are proudly New Zealand's leading carbon reduction solution; however, our work isn't done yet!  Our aim is to encourage more organisations to start their journey with us to make New Zealand and the world more sustainable.

Intrigued?

The market for our services is growing rapidly as climate action has started to become mainstream, catalysed by a number of external factors. As a result of both internal and external drivers, we've undertaken a strategic review and developed a comprehensive business case for transformation. As Toitū enters its next phase of growth and digital transformation, the role of the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) will be integral in working with the CEO and senior leadership team (SLT) to drive our key organisational shifts to transform Toitū into a modern, agile, data-centric digital business. Working closely with the Chief Customer and Marketing Officer, the GM of Strategic Partnerships and the Head of Transformation Programme, the CDO will instil a culture of digital innovation, identifying opportunities for competitive differentiation and advantage, and designing agile, userfriendly services, to create efficiencies as well as new value from digital initiatives that meet our strategic objectives.

The CDO will be a crucial player in the company's transformation and will be responsible for the broad range of digital solutions and services that shape the future of the company through technology and data and maintain the reputation and relevance of Toitū in the marketplace. The CDO will lead the Digital function, oversee and manage enterprise systems and tools, including budget and licence management, be responsible for Toitū's data and information strategy and cyber security (in conjunction with Manaaki Whenua, as applicable), and engage with sector partners, where relevant.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Accountability for development and delivery of Toitū's Digital Strategy and technology roadmap: Drive the company's transformation into a data-centric digital business, using data and technology to drive growth and meet the needs of emissions reduction in New Zealand and beyond.
  • Data and information strategic leadership: Accountability for development and delivery of Toitū's Data Strategy, ensuring Toitū leverages (and protects) data to effectively manage the business and drive value through new services for our customers.
  • Cyber security: Lead the strategic de-coupling from Manaaki Whenua's IT services (to the extent it makes sense to do so), including development and execution of a roadmap to mature Toitū's cyber security capability.
  • Enterprise Architecture: Working in collaboration with the SLT, develop and manage an Enterprise Architecture for Toitū. This will respond to the Digital and Data strategies and be designed to deliver on current and emerging needs of the organisation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the CEO and senior leaders to collaboratively shape Toitū's future, reputation and market relevance as a digital and future-ready business.
  • Mentorship: Support the CEO and other senior leaders to educate staff on the needs and benefits of digital transformation.
  • Team management: Lead and manage the Digital function, ensuring the focus is on delivering high-quality technology and services that meet the needs of both external and internal customers/users and adhere to Toitū's standards of science and technical knowhow.
  • Engagement: Represent the company at conferences where relevant and engage with sector partners, building relationships with key stakeholders.

 About You

You're a senior leader, with extensive industry experience and knowledge of digital business platforms, managed services, digital technologies and transformation, information security and risk management, AWS, and data warehousing. You can engage constructively with a wide range of stakeholders, including Government, Boards and Executive teams, partners and technical experts. You have demonstratable success leading a team with expertise and passion for coaching and developing team members.

A fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a busy team making a difference to New Zealand.
