The role/Te mahi

This is an exciting time and an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate to join University of Otago. The Category Specialist role is a position within the Financial Services Division, reporting to the Senior Manager Procurement & Licensing. You will perform primarily a sourcing/contract management role and you will be the primary lead responsible for particular categories of spend as well as being expected to undertake other procurement functions that may fall outside your primary area of responsibility.

In this role, you will partner with stakeholders to plan, develop, source, analyse and manage procurement and licensing arrangements to support the University optimising its ability to attain the best value in goods and services to meet its business objectives.

Exemplary customer service and advice is of utmost importance to the success of this role and this position is responsible for ensuring consistent and standardised approaches to University procurement activities.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

We are looking for a contemporary procurement expert who will also have:
•    Experience/exposure to public sector procurement processes and requirements.
•    High degree of computer literacy and numerical data analysis skills.
•    Experience of sourcing and procurement techniques.
•    Experience in tendering processes and managing supplier agreements (experience within the building construction and property services space would be advantageous).
•    Demonstrated ability to develop and embed quality procurement processes within a large organisation.

Proficiency in financial and accounting software and systems is important for this role (Finance One desirable).

Your ability to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders and the broader financial services team is essential in contributing to the successful achievement of the University’s Vision and Mission.
