Who we are

The University of Otago has had a Proctor for nearly 50 years. Our office is responsible for a large number of roles throughout the University, with the emphasis on the safety of students/staff and maintaining a healthy learning environment for all.

Campus Watch is a diverse group of people, readily available to offer assistance and advice when or wherever it is required.

The role

The main role of Campus Watch team members is essentially pastoral with a desire to foster and maintain a safe and secure Campus environment that encourages and enables all students to realise their maximum potential.

While working a 24-hour roster, you will be expected to maintain a highly visible presence about the University to prevent crime and disorder, and to respond and act promptly to requests for assistance when personal safety or property is at risk.

Your skills and experience

Successful applicants will have:
•    An ability to relate to young people.
•    Excellent communication skills.
•    A high standard of common sense, patience, and tact.
•    An ability to form effective working relationships with people of varying backgrounds.
•    Be physically fit and healthy.
•    A well-developed sense of humour.
•    A reasonable knowledge of relevant New Zealand law.
•    A current driver’s licence.
•    A current First Aid Certificate.
•    Basic computing skills.

Further details

We have two positions available within our team as follows:
•    A permanent, full-time position.
•    A permanent, full-time, academic year only position. Expected work commitments are 1 February to 30 November each year.

Both positions involve shift work outside of core working hours.
