Academic and research staff in our laboratories are engaged in high-quality internationally recognised physiological research. We use state-of-the-art technologies to undertake integrative cellular and molecular investigations aimed at understanding animal and human physiology.

The role/Te mahi

As an Assistant Research Fellow, you will provide laboratory management and research support in cell physiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology.

Duties will include:
•    Maintaining and generating new cell lines and DNA constructs.
•    Performing single cell Ca2+ imaging and analysis.
•    Assisting with tissue isolation from small rodents.
•    Maintaining the laboratory (Health and Safety and compliance, preparation of buffers, media, and other reagents).
•    Training new staff members and assisting with day-to-day supervision of junior students in the laboratory.
•    Contributing to troubleshooting the development of new cell-based assays.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

Applicants should have:
•    BSc(Hons), and/or equivalent previous technical/research experience.
•    Experience in molecular biology, protein biochemistry and microscopy/single cell imaging techniques.
•    An attention to detail and meticulous work ethic.
•    The ability to work in a group environment.
•    Organisational and time management skills.
•    Ability to train and tutor others.
•    Willingness to work outside of a typical 9am-5pm day.

This is a full-time, fixed term position available from October 2021 for 24 months.
