Who we are

Established in 1964, the Department of Psychological Medicine's longstanding foundations are confirmation of the Dunedin School of Medicine's ongoing commitment to psychological medicine.

The Department is focussed on six primary research areas, as well as being actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching to medical students, psychiatric and general practice registrars, postgraduate students, and various higher education postgraduate training programmes.

The role

The prime function of this position, which is funded by a James Hume Bequest Research Grant, will be to help provide clinical oversight, project management support and research support to the Caring Universities Aotearoa project.

Depending on the person specification, key tasks will include:
•    Clinical oversight of the coaches (coaches will be clinical psychology interns or trainees and psychiatric registrars).
•    Research support with qualitative research including undertaking interviews and analysis.
•    Co-ordinating changes to the e-health programmes.
•    Liaison with the other team members, including the developers of the e-health intervention.

Your skills and experience

•    Masters qualification, PhD preferable.
•    Registered clinical psychologist with experience working in mental health preferred.
•    Research experience (preparation and project management), including specific expertise in the conduct and analysis of qualitative research.
•    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, experience in writing and/or assessing research proposals.
•    Ability to interact effectively, tactfully and diplomatically with a wide range of staff, professionals, and students.
•    Ability to conduct research within a culturally diverse context.
•    Possess a high level of discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
•    Proven ability to work effectively and collegially in a team environment as well as independently.
•    An understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Further details

This is a part-time, fixed term position for 12 months. This will be offered either as an Assistant Research Fellow at 0.2 FTE or Research Fellow at 0.1 FTE.
