DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH Our Research groups He Kainga Oranga/Housing and Health Research Programme and the New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities research teams are led by Sesquicentennial Distinguished Professor Philippa Howden-Chapman and Associate Professor Nevil Pierse. They are based in the University of Otago, Wellington. The multi-disciplinary team includes social researchers with expertise in both qualitative and quantities disciplines, economists, scientists and expert practitioners. The teams have established wide international research links. He Kainga Oranga/Housing and Health Research Programme, examines and clarifies the links between Housing and Health. It was one of the first programmes to comprehensively explore the impact of housing on health. Its 20 years community-based research evidence has influenced major changes in housing standards applied at local, national and international levels. In NZ, its research has led to widespread changes in the rules, regulations and methods to improve the quality of housing, internationally its research leads developing WHO guidelines on healthy housing. The New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities is an Inter-disciplinary research centre dedicated to providing the research base for innovative solutions to the economic, social, environmental and cultural development of our urban Centres. The centre successfully ran MBIE funded’ Resilient Urban Futures research programme’ from 2012-2016. He Kainga Oranga/ Housing and Health Research Programme and the New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities received a $5 million Health Research Council (HRC) Programme grant to work on interventions that will help all New Zealanders live in warm, dry, mould-free and safe homes and a $12.4 million Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Endeavour Programme to look at public housing as a driver of well-being and sustainable urban regeneration. The role Our friendly and collaborative research team is looking for an Assistant Research Fellow statistician to work across our NZ Centre for Sustainable Cities and Healthy Housing Research groups at the University of Otago, Wellington. We are changing New Zealand’s homes and communities and the quality of our science is well recognised. You’ll support the development and use of the IDI (Integrated Data Infrastructure) datasets and contribute to research activities, as well as participating in activities in the wider research group and Department of Public Health. • Working with researchers to maximise the use of the IDI in presenting evidence of the impact of interventions relating to cities and housing on health and its social and economic determinants.
• Writing statistical analysis plans and protocols for future projects.
• Developing frameworks across projects.
• Participating in the activities of He Kāinga Oranga and the NZ Centre for Sustainable Cities and the as required.
• Ability to work productively with a team.
• Skilled in SQL and R.
• Ability to use GitLab (preferable).
