The role/Te mahi As an Assistant Research Fellow, you will contribute to a University of Otago Research Grant -funded project “How peers talk to young people about maltreatment: Identifying knowledge, gaps and challenges” and associated research in Dr Deirdre Brown’s Applied Developmental Lab. DUNEDIN SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
• Assisting with preparation of ethics applications for the research project.
• Leading recruitment of schools and students into the research.
• Training research assistants in interview and data scoring protocols and establishing reliability of the scoring systems.
• Conducting face-to-face and zoom interviews with students during data collection.
• Data processing including transcription interviews, qualitative and quantitative scoring of responses and data entry.
• Administrative support for the project (recording keeping, web page maintenance, archiving, sending feedback out at the conclusion of the study).
• Supporting the preparation of publications arising from the project.
• Literature searching and management.
• A minimum of an honours degree, with a research component, in psychology or a related subject, or an undergraduate degree with previous research experience. A postgraduate research qualification is preferred.
• Excellent time management, self-direction, independence and organisational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and spoken communication.
• The ability to work well with others in a team.
• An ability to learn new skills, take feedback and adhere to research protocols.
• Appreciation of the ethical responsibilities of the research team and the sensitivity and sovereignty of the information collected from participants.
• High levels of professionalism in dealing with schools, participants and their whānau, and the research team.
• Experience with qualitative and quantitative coding methods and analysis.
• Experience with transcription of interviews.
• Te Reo skills and experience with Kaupapa Māori research methods, knowledge of tikanga (preferred).
• Familiarity with document management systems (e.g., EndNote or Mandalay) (preferred).
