The Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at the University of Otago is a research-intensive department with a focus on developing drugs to treat important conditions, such as cancer, diabetes, neurological conditions and heart disease. The Department is also committed to high quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The role/Te mahi

A full-time, fixed term Assistant Research Fellow position is available in the Zheng/Smith Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. 

This project is an exciting opportunity to provide high-quality research assistance on a project entitled: “Counting on your ears”, funded by a Marsden grant. 

Key tasks will include:
•    Performing behavioural experiments.
•    Performing electrophysiological recordings.
•    Collecting and analysing data.
•    General laboratory tasks.
•    Assisting with preparation of manuscripts.

Skills and Experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

We are looking for candidates with the following attributes: 
•    A postgraduate qualification in neuroscience or related discipline. 
•    Experience with animal behavioural testing and small animal surgery is desirable.

This is a fixed term (2 year), full-time (1FTE) position, located in Dunedin, available from 3 June 2024 to 31 May 2026. 

The salary range for an Assistant Research Fellow is $58,341 to $78,531.
