Who we are

 

This position is based in our Dunedin School of Medicine, split across the Departments of Medicine and Pathology.

 

The Department of Medicine is a major academic department within our school. In addition to teaching undergraduate medical students, we offer world-class postgraduate education and research opportunities to medical professionals, and PhD and masters' students.

 

Our Department of Pathology is a major teaching department for the Health Sciences Division, and includes those in the Medicine and Medical Laboratory Science programmes.

 

The Role

 

As an Assistant Research Fellow working within our departments, you will provide a high standard of research and technical support through completion of experiments.

 

Key tasks include:
• Undertaking culture of gastric cancer cell lines.
• Conducting RNA interference, CRISPaint and cloning experiments.
• Using confocal microscopy to visualise intracellular behaviour of molecules.
• Undertaking flow cytometry, quantitative PCR, western blot and functional cell culture assays.

 

Laboratory work will be undertaken in the Department of Pathology (0.8 FTE) and trial support in the Oncology Research Unit (0.2 FTE).

 

Your Skills and Experience

 

• A BSc Hons (minimum) in cell biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, genetics or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated research experience in the relevant techniques, particularly in cell culture and microscopy is highly desirable.
• Ability to carry out reproducible and publishable experimentation is highly desirable.
• Organised, methodical, with excellent attention to detail.
• Given the collaborative nature of this project, you are expected to have strong interpersonal communication skills.
