Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With

Te Ratonga Whakahaere Paenga | Facilities Management (FM) provides support to the University of Canterbury's (UC) teaching, research and support functions in four key areas: Security Services delivery, Capital works planning, programming and delivery, Operations and Maintenance planning and delivery and Support Services delivery.

UC is made up of approximately 150 buildings across 87 hectares, covering a gross floor area of 223,000m2 . In essence, FM is responsible for keeping UC operating safely at a quality standard for our community, which is very much like keeping a small, but very complex, town running. 

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

We have a unique opportunity for an Assistant Director FM and Head of Capital Development to join our team.  You will provide planning and execution of a portfolio of diverse Capital Work projects, which are incorporated within the Major Investment Plan (MIP) and Asset Management Plan (AMP). Reporting to the Director of FM, you will provide assistance and support to the leadership team to ensure the departments planning, recruitment, project delivery practices and processes facilitate the success of asset projects at UC.

You will actively establish and foster professional relationships across the University to understand stakeholder requirements as well as operational and strategic direction. You will ensure that construction site risk is managed and reviewed and ensure that budgets, timescales and risks are managed and appropriately reported through the governance channels.

Mōu | Who You Are

You will have a significant experience in the building or construction management industry, including experience within a delivery team management role. You will also have the following experience and skills:

  • Experience utilising project management frameworks while managing construction programmes/ high-end projects, with an exceptional track record of been delivered on time and within budget
  • Significant experience in financial and contract management and administration
  • Significant experience of modern methods of construction and how these can be applied to deliver best practice at UC
  • Excellent understanding of managing site risk and safety and ensuring pre-construction risks are determined and agreed
  • Knowledge of policy and procedure development is essential
  • You will be a lateral thinker, pragmatic leader and excellent problem solver
  • Excellent time management, written and oral communication skills are essential
  • You will have fantastic interpersonal skills, with an ability to relate to and deal with a wide range of stakeholders.

The appointable salary for this role will be between $138,252 - $158,990 p.a., depending on skills and experience.
