Toi Ohomai delivers quality vocational education and training to both domestic and international students, across five main campuses in Rotorua, Tauranga, Taupō, Tokoroa and Whakatāne, and numerous delivery sites across the Bay of Plenty and South Waikato.

This position is for an Academic Staff Member (ASM) to teach on our Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Programme and can be based in Rotorua or Tauranga. Travel may be required.

As an ASM your key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Marketing to and identifying workplaces who wish to provide Workplace Literacy & Numeracy programmes for their staff
  • Negotiating with workplaces to design programmes to meet the specific learner needs of their staff
  • The delivery of the Workplace Literacy & Numeracy programme
  • Provide leadership in learner management
  • To develop, plan and implement learner assessment, courses and resource material in a workplace environment
  • To monitor learner progress, results and provide timely and accurate advice and support as required 
  • Planning and scheduling of the programme 

The skills, experience and qualifications required for this role include:

  • Previous experience within the literacy and numeracy area is preferred though not essential
  • Have teaching experience and or qualification, i.e. NCALNE (Desirable)
  • Have confidence engaging and working with Māori and Pasifika models of learning
  • Ability to network with businesses and employers 
  • A good level of computer literacy skills 
  • Have a positive attitude
