The opportunity / Te Whiwhinga mahi 

The Academic Staff Member / Tutorial Assistant role is a split position within the Environmental & Marine Team based at the Windermere Campus, Tauranga. Within this role you will work closely with kaimahi and ākonga to assist the delivery of the National Certificate in Diving (Level 3), and the NZ Diploma in Environmental Management – Marine and Terrestrial strands (Level 5 and Level 6).

As an Academic Staff Member / Tutorial Assistant role you will:

  • Deliver and co-ordinate PADI Scuba courses as required with the occasional delivery on other courses as appropriate 
  • Manage the resulting and record keeping of the National Certificate in Diving (level 3) 
  • Provide exceptional tutor and course support within the field and in the classroom
  • Use a learner-centred approach to facilitate the learning of a range of students 
  • Maintain field and diving equipment within the Marine and Environmental Management Team
  • Be responsible for the allocation and recording of equipment required for field work and student research projects

As the ideal applicant you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct subtidal surveys
  • Ability to instruct students to a minimum of Divemaster level
  • Be self-motivating and able to work well both independently and in a team environment
  • Be passionate about the marine and terrestrial environment
  • The ability to spend extended days away on field trips to remote locations
  • Experience working in small boats
