Wintec | Te Pūkenga is a Tumu, a mooring post to which learners secure their waka to for a time. The Tumu ensures our ākonga / learners’ journey is successful, where they achieve their aspirations.
Once the ākonga has added to their waka what they need, they unhitch their waka from the Tumu returning to their whānau, hapū, iwi, employers, and the wider community to share their wealth of skills and knowledge.
About the role
We are looking for people to join our team who have a strong academic foundation of knowledge and experience to support ākonga while they study here at Wintec.
In this Academic Learning Advisor role, you will focus on helping ākonga develop their academic capability, in particular their academic writing and reading skills. Working alongside kaiako / tutors and support staff, you will foster a positive learning environment with a focus on equity for Māori and Pacific learners.
Your effective teaching strategies, including technology tools, will aid in student retention, success, and completion initiatives at Wintec.

This is a full-time, fixed term position that will end Friday 15 December 2023.

Skills and attributes that will support your application are:
- Strong values and strengths-based practice.
- Background in teaching and learning development.
- Experience working alongside Māori and Pacific communities.
- Genuine aspiration to contribute to priority learner success.
- Strong communication skills
- Understanding of the tertiary environment
Previous experience at providing academic support in a tertiary context would be an advantage.
