The PBRF Quality Evaluation is one of the most important activities in the University's research calendar. Not only does the result deliver significant funding for our research activity and infrastructure, the exercise also provides staff with an opportunity to reflect on and plan their research careers.

In a first for AUT, we will be establishing a fractional senior academic appointment to lead our approach to the 2026 Quality Evaluation exercise.

This is a significant strategic appointment within the University.  Working closely with Faculties and other partners, the appointee will be responsible for ensuring that a clear strategic direction and plan for PBRF preparation is developed and implemented. The role will also be responsible for building a support framework and that optimises AUT's capacity to deliver an excellent PBRF result. This work will be supported by the PBRF Steering Group and the Technical Lead, Performance-Based Research Evaluation.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Significant experience with Quality Evaluation, including mentoring and leading groups of academics through PBRF preparations, and a strong understanding of systems and processes related to PBRF.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to lead by influence, advocating for AUT's PBRF aspirations, and supporting Faculties to develop and implement their plans and frameworks.
  • An understanding of the diverse disciplinary areas, research practices, and methodologies represented at AUT and situated in Aotearoa New Zealand.

This role is currently a 0.4 FTE secondment, with the possibility of an increasing commitment in the lead-up to 2026.
