Assistant Accountant

We’re looking for a proactive and detail-orientated accounting professional who enjoys working with numbers, solving problems, and contributing to accurate financial reporting. Join our Finance Team and make a real impact. This position will play a key role in supporting the Bioeconomy Science Institute through a period of organisational transformation and integration.
- Undertake receivables, revenue accounting, reconciliations and fixed assets accounting.
- Work closely with the Financial Accountant and wider Finance Team to support accurate month-end reporting and financial controls.

What you will be doing | Ngā whāinga matua
You will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the finance function. This is a hands-on role where you will prepare reconciliations, process transactions, maintain financial records, and support month-end reporting activities. Working closely with the Financial Accountant and wider finance team, you will help ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and well supported.
Key responsibilities include:
- Completing end-to-end accounts receivable activities.
- Preparing revenue journals, accruals and reconciliations.
- Completing bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintaining the fixed asset register and processing asset transactions.
- Preparing month-end reporting information and audit ready workpapers.
- Maintaining effective financial controls and contributing to process improvement.

To be successful in this role, the minimum qualifications required are:
- A recognised accounting qualification (or currently working towards one) or equivalent relevant accounting experience.
- Proven experience in accounts receivable, including invoicing, account reconciliation, customer account management, and credit control.
- Experience with revenue accounting, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and fixed asset accounting.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on accuracy and continuous improvement.
- Experience using TechnologyOne or a similar ERP system and intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder relationship skills with a customer-focused approach.
