Plant & Food Research is a New Zealand-based science company providing research and development that adds value to the fruit, vegetable, crop and food sectors. We are an organisation that recognises the growing need for statistical skills in areas such as breeding and genomics, metabolomics, post-harvest technologies, ecology, sensors and sensing systems,  clinical trials and sensory and consumer science.

What you will be doing

We have two opportunities for outstanding and talented data engineers with great people skills to join the stimulating environment in one of New Zealand's largest research organisations. Our team has expertise in computer vision technologies, signal processing from smart sensors, natural language processing, data-driven consumer insights, and genomic data science. You will design, build, and support various data pipelines and platforms that manage many aspects of data lifecycle including: data acquisition, streaming, pre-processing, storage, transformation, analytics, visualisation, reporting, and eventual archival. These positions will grow and support data science and predictive analytics at Plant & Food Research.

What you will need

You will have a Bachelor in Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Data Sciences or a related field with a strong quantitative background. Experience in data engineering principles and advanced data manipulation processes to various types of data; CI/CD in data intensive workloads and environments (DevOps and DataOps) along with modelling and development of relational and/or NoSQL databases. Well-developed communication and relationship skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a wide range of multi-disciplinary teams will be essential. Experience working in a cloud-based data platform (AWS/Azure/GCP) would be advantageous.
