Plant & Food Research's Applied Entomology Group delivers entomological research solutions to New Zealand's major horticultural sectors with regionally-based teams working closely with the pipfruit, winegrape, kiwifruit and mixed cropping sectors.

The Group has an exciting opportunity for a Technician or Research Associate to provide research and technical assistance for its Pipfruit and Winegrapes team in the Hawkes Bay.This will see you contribute to research supporting the development of integrated pest management programmes, biological control, and pheromone-based pest management systems for these crops, as well as providing practical skills to work towards developing measures to reduce the risk of unwanted pests being present on export fruit crops.

You will likely have a BSc or MSc in Entomology or Zoology along with experience in insect handling and rearing combined with relevant computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, statistical analysis and graphical packages. Experience working on a variety of projects, in both a laboratory and field environment would be an advantage. Due to the seasonal nature of the research you must be available to work flexible hours at times and hold a full driver's licence as some work may be carried out at other sites.
