Two part-time lecturers in Comparative Indo-European Linguistics (0,3 to 0,5 FTE)

The Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL) is looking to employ two part-time lecturers in Comparative Indo-European Linguistics for a fixed period of twelve months, starting August 2024.

Key responsibilities
Teaching courses in the Comparative Indo-European Linguistics Track of the BA Linguistics and / or the Comparative Indo-European Linguistics Route of the MA Linguistics.

Selection criteria

  • A PhD degree in Comparative Indo-European Linguistics (the PhD thesis has to be approved before the start of the contract);
  • Demonstrable dedication to and experience with academic teaching, both at the BA and at the MA level;
  • Expertise in several subjects taught in the Comparative Indo-European Linguistics Track (BA) and Route (MA).

Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL) is one of seven Institutes that falls under the Faculty of Humanities. With over 120 linguists working at the Institute, it is a rich research environment that prides itself on fostering scientific excellence and teaching.

LUCL has a longstanding tradition in the study of the world’s languages and features unique linguistic expertise. Researchers from our six umbrella research groups are experts in their respective fields, but equally find innovative ways of collaborating with other fields and disciplines.

The Faculty of Humanities is rich in expertise in fields such as philosophy, religious studies, history, art history, literature, linguistics and area studies covering nearly every region of the world. With its staff of 995, the faculty provides 27 master’s and 25 bachelor’s programmes for over 7,000 students based at locations in Leiden and in The Hague. Terms and conditions
We offer a 0,3 to 0,5 FTE (with a maximum of 0,8 FTE in total for both positions) temporary appointment of 12 months, starting August 2024, with possibly one or two extensions of 12 months each, after positive evaluation of capabilities and depending on our funding.

Salary ranges from € 3,226.- to € 5,090.- gross per month (pay scale 10) based on fulltime employment in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
