Job description

The Department of Psychology has a job opening for two Associate Professors. These positions are embedded within the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences and contains a combination of teaching (60%) and research (40%). As an Associate Professor you will be employed in the Clinical Psychology division of the Department of Psychology.

To be appointed as an associate professor we require experience and leadership in curriculum development. Success in supervising PhD students towards their doctorates. High visibility, scientific impact, and strong international reputation. Proven ability to obtain external funding. Excellent organizational and management skills. Experience in regular department/faculty duties. You will be a role model and a key member of the division.

You will be participating in teaching in the Bachelor’s programme in Psychology in the domains relevant to Clinical Psychology and the international Master’s programme in Clinical Psychology. Teaching involves (large-scale) lectures, (small-scale) instruction and individual supervision of clinical or research internships and research theses, along with more general coordination and administration activities.

Research within Clinical Psychology covers three broad research programmes. The first programme (psychotraumatology) encompasses field and clinical research on underlying mechanisms and treatments of emotional consequences of different types of adverse events (e.g., loss, psychotrauma) in children, adults, and families. The second programme (experimental psychopathology) encompasses laboratory, field, and clinical research on causes and underlying mechanisms involved in trauma and anxiety-related disorders and novel ways to predict and optimize treatment efficacy. The third programme (depression and suicidality) employs RCTs and clinical experiments focused on predictors of, and treatment intervention for depression and suicidality, with the ultimate goal to advance precision mental health.

One of the Associate Professors will be connected with the first programme (psychotraumatology). The other Associate Professor will be connected to the last programme (depression and suicidality).

  • supervising PhD candidates in their research;
  • participating in one of both research programmes (psychotraumatology or depression and suicidality);
  • carrying out and supervising research within this programme;
  • publishing research findings in high impact international scientific journals;
  • initiating and contributing to the acquisition of substantial external research funding for the benefit of the research programme.
