Two Assistant Professors Clinical Psychology (0.8 - 1.0 FTE)

Job description

The Department of Psychology has two job openings for the position of Assistant Professor. The position is embedded within the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences and contains a combination of teaching (60%) and research (40%).
As an Assistant Professor you will be employed in the Clinical Psychology division of the Department of Psychology. You will be participating in teaching in the Bachelor’s programme in Psychology in the domains relevant to Clinical Psychology and the international Master’s programme in Clinical Psychology. Teaching involves (large-scale) lectures, (small-scale) instruction and individual supervision of clinical internships and research theses, along with more general coordination and administration activities.

The research within Clinical Psychology covers three broad research programs. The first encompasses (mostly applied) research on underlying mechanisms and treatment of consequences of loss and psychotrauma in children, adults, and families . The second includes (mostly) laboratory and clinical research on causes, underlying mechanisms and novel ways to optimize treatment of trauma- and anxiety-related disorders. The third program focuses on depression, suicidality and personality disorders and employs RCTs and clinical experiments to investigate the effectiveness of psychotherapy, predictors of response and mechanisms of change, with the ultimate goal to advance precision mental health. The two Assistant Professors will join this last research program.

Core tasks include:

  • participating in teaching at Bachelor’s and Master’s level. Teaching involves individual supervision as well as lectures and workgroups in clinically oriented courses;
  • coordination of parts of the curriculum;
  • participating in one or both of the division's research programmes;
  • publishing research findings in (high impact) international scientific journals;
  • contributing to the acquisition of external research funding for the benefit of the research programme.

For our education and research programmes, clinical registration and work experience in mental health care is desirable. Experience with experimental research is also an advantage.
We believe individual and collective achievements should be in balance. That is why we assess both individual and team performance. We stimulate good academic leadership at all levels. Last but not least, we encourage Researchers to share the results of scientific research with society so collectively we can achieve more and increase the university’s contribution to society.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

  • has a PhD degree in the field of clinical psychology;
  • has experience with teaching in clinical psychology (e.g., courses related to psychopathology, and/or psychodiagnostics, and/or interventions);
  • holds a Dutch Teaching Qualification (BKO) or is willing to acquire this qualification in the near future;
  • has an eye for innovations in teaching methods and is prepared to contribute to the optimization of the quality of teaching;
  • has clinical experience or an interest in working with patients with mental health disorders and, preferably, holds a clinical registration as a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist or health care psychologist (BIG) and/or cognitive behavioural therapist (VGCt);
  • has scientific creativity and productivity, as shown by recent peer-reviewed publications in relevant fields of research;
  • is fluent in English, speaking and writing at an academic level;
  • if non-Dutch, is willing to learn the Dutch language. We believe that understanding and speaking Dutch makes it easier to connect with colleagues. We offer free Dutch language courses;
  • is effective and efficient, able to think outside the box, has excellent social skills and is a team player.
