Tutorial Teacher

We seek tutorial teachers who have almost or recently graduated or obtained a PhD in Psychology (or a strongly related field) to teach tutorials in the second year of our Bachelor Psychology programme.

If you have a background in clinical developmental psychology, clinical psychology or social psychology, you may be appointed for a longer period (this depends on the student numbers and your exact background). In that case you will be deployed in the second semester teaching programme of these specialisations.

What are you going to do

During the first semester, you will work in a young, enthusiastic, self-managing team, where there is room for your own ideas and initiatives and will give tutorials for the courses Scientific and Statistical Reasoning (SSR), Fundamentals of Psychology (FP), and Practical Training: Psychological Research (PT:PR)

Function A:

  • Three tutorials per week, one for PT:PR and two for SSR/FP (26.8 hours per week).

Function B:

  • Two tutorials per week, one for PT:PR and one for SSR/FP (20.7 hours per week).

Function C:

  • One tutorial per week for PT:PR (11.4 hours per week).
  • You will work with students every week to collectively explore the depth of the material.
  • You give feedback on research reports, essays and other assignments of students and you grade them.
  • You are a mentor for the students in your groups: you will have individual meetings and guide students in their learning process when needed.
  • You are involved in producing the content of the tutorials and assignments: during the year and in the summer, we adapt the teaching material together.
  • Every Tuesday from 16.00-17.00, you attend the team meeting in which we evaluate last week's tutorial meetings together and look ahead to the next week.

In the second semester, people with a background in the above-mentioned specialisations may likely be employed in the teaching programme of these specialisations.

Due to COVID-19 part or all of it may have to be done online via Zoom.


What do we require of you

You enjoy supervising groups of (international) students in the second year of their psychology studies. You like teaching academic skills such as data analysis (statistics), scientific writing, argumentation and the philosophy of science. You are interested in teaching and innovating of teaching, you want to develop yourself in this and reflect on your own skills. You have excellent communication and social skills and you can work well in a team.

Because we are a bilingual Bachelor, we are both looking for tutorial teachers who can teach in English and tutorial teachers who can teach in Dutch. Dutch proficiency is not necessary for teachers of English-speaking groups. Teaching will be on campus, if possible. We strive for a diverse team in which different perspectives are represented.

In addition, you have:

  • good scientific writing skills and an excellent command of the English language.
  • preferably some teaching experience or experience in guiding groups,

Our offer

We offer a temporary employment contract for six months as docent 4 (salary scale 10, if you have not yet graduated you will be appointed as a student assistent, salary scale SA). For those with a background in the above-mentioned specialisations, the intention is to extend to two years (and after that possibly one additional year).

We are looking for several tutorial teachers for different contract sizes (see above). When circumstances arise, contracts can be extended to a maximum of 0.71 fte (26.8 hours per week).

Availability as of 23 August 2021 is a requirement. The Cao Nederlandse Universiteiten applies.
