Job description

The Maastricht Knights is the student basketball association of Maastricht. It was founded on May 14th, 2009 by a group of students with a love for basketball. Over the years the association has grown into a very international club with approximately 50 members divided over 2 men’s and 1 women’s team. These teams are active on a national and local class level. The teams practise twice a week and have games almost every weekend. Maastricht Knights sees sports and basketball as part of personal development.

For the upcoming season (2023 – 2024) UM SPORTS is looking for a trainer for MK men I team. The level of this team is “Mannen Senioren Landelijk – 2e Divisie D”.

Training hours:
3 hours per week. Day and time to be decided. Currently, both Men teams of the Maastricht Knights practice Tuesday and Thursday evening for 1,5 hours each training.

Salary:
Commission at UM SPORTS in accordance with VSNU (UFO-profile sports instructor 3 or 4). A self-employed construction (zzp/ondernemer) may also be possible.

Requirements

Do you have the following qualities and skills?

  • License 3 or 4 NBB for coaches who trained in the Netherlands. For coaches trained abroad, the NBB can assess whether the obtained diploma is equivalent Dutch license on request.
  • You have experience in teaching / coaching basketball.
  • You have affinity with student sports and its culture.
  • You have a good command of the Dutch and English language verbal and in writing.
  • You are enthusiastic and have a proactive work attitude and are motivated.
  • You are available in weekends for coaching Men 1 in the weekend for both home and away games.

Conditions of employment

Temporary employment for 1 season; the temporary contract can be extended when performance is satisfactory.

The period in which you will work runs from 1 September – 1 July (excluding pre-set fixed and bank holidays). In this period of 40 weeks you will work 3 hours per week.

The vacancy concerns a job position within scale 7 (Sports Instructor 4, min. € 2,471 to € 3,336 gross a month, on fulltime basis) or scale 8 (Sports Instructor 3, € 2,818 to
€ 3,764 gross a month, on fulltime basis) in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement (CLA) of the VSNU (Association of universities in the Netherlands).

UM SPORTS is a department of the Student Services Centre (SSC) of Maastricht University and organises the sports programme for Maastricht University’s students, staff and alumni, and for students of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. With its wide selection of sports (± 60 activities), 31 Student Sports Associations (SSA’s), fun events and student-friendly prices, UM SPORTS offers a healthy and fun sports experience with something for everyone.
UM’s international character is also strongly present at UM SPORTS, in both its members and employees. Most activities are offered in English, so everyone can join in.
