Can we prevent Alzheimer’s disease or blindness by exploiting and understanding medical data from multiple sources using AI?  

The Informatics Institute of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) is hiring an Assistant professor in AI and Health for their qurAI group , an interfaculty group embedded in the Faculties of Medicine (Department of Biomedical Engineering and Physics - BMEP) and Science (Institute of Informatics -IvI) of the University of Amsterdam.

What are you going to do?

You will be expected to work on the development, validation and clinically integration of responsible AI solutions for the analysis of multimodal medical data, with a special focused on medical imaging analysis in combination with omics data. These solutions will help in the diagnosis and management of eye disorders and neurodegenerative diseases. You will be joining a growing and vibrant interfaculty team of colleagues working within IvI and BMEP and together with different clinical departments of the Amsterdam University Medical Centers who are tackling problems related to the development of trustworthy AI solutions to solve data analysis challenges encountered in different steps of the patient pathway, from prevention and triage, through diagnosis and decision making, to care delivery and management.

You are expected to:

  • contribute to the development of the research group through innovative research and develop your own independent research line;
  • acquire independent funding from sources such as the national funding agency NWO (e.g. VIDI), EU funding via H2020 (e.g. ERC starting grant) and industry;
  • (co-)supervise the group’s postdocs, PhD students and MSc students;
  • contribute to strengthening the curriculum in AI and healthcare of the Bachelor and Master AI and related programmes such as the interfaculty AI for Health track; teaching is approximately 30% of the position’s total time;
  • contribute to outreach, both in terms of engaging with industrial and (inter)national academic partners as well as supporting the group’s activity for the integration of AI solutions in clinical workflow. UvA spinoffs that bring technology to industry and society are highly encouraged.
