Job description

The Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen is looking for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Microeconomics.

For this position, we welcome candidates with excellent research skills and a shown interest in the field of either behavioral/applied game theory and/or industrial organization. Experimentalists with a strong technical background and game theorists with experience in designing and conducting lab experiments are especially encouraged to apply, as for this position lab management tasks may substitute part of the teaching obligations. Applicants must have completed (or nearing completion of) a PhD in economics.

Candidates have the ability to conduct high quality, original research and to publish in high-ranked international journals. Time for research is allocated according to standardized faculty procedures, which guarantee 50% time for research during the tenure track period. As to teaching, the candidate contributes to the courses in the BSc and MSc programs, including the supervision of bachelor and master theses.


Qualifications

To qualify, you should have:

  • a completed PhD in Economics, or being close to completion
  • a relevant research record in microeconomics, with publications and/or the potential to publish in top tier economics journals
  • teaching experience and good teaching skills
  • a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) or the willingness to obtain this qualification
  • a collaborative and positive attitude, strong communicative skills; and
  • an ambition to develop an international network of professional contacts.

Organisation

The Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance (EEF), embedded in FEB, is an active and international research community, performing at the highest international level in terms of research and publications. Central research themes are among other things behavioral and experimental economics, industrial organization, applied microeconomics, (applied and theoretical) econometrics, health, ageing and pensions, finance and asset pricing. Researchers can run economic laboratory experiments using the faculty’s GrEELab facilities. Members of the department regularly publish in a wide range of top and top-field journals.

The Department is responsible for courses in several bachelor, master and PhD programs in Economics, Business Economics, Finance, and Econometrics. We offer research driven education within four Bachelor programs, fifteen Master programs, and three Executive Master programs.


Conditions of employment

In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities, we offer:

  • a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 3,974 to a maximum of € 5,439 gross per month (salary scale 11)
  • excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favorable tax treatment may apply to non-Dutch applicants
  • a tenure track appointment for a period of seven years, on the condition of a positive interim evaluation at the end of the third year of employment. The seventh year is to compensate for any ‘life events’ (e.g., parental leave, illness) that might take place during the first six years. Based on a positive final evaluation in the sixth year, you will receive a tenured position at the Associate Professor level. During the appointment as a tenure track assistant professor you will have 50% research time.

We expect you to start by August/September 2023
